This is learned skill with a weapon, which can increase with time and practice. It allows for more thoughtful use of the weapon, often allowing quicker and more effective strikes than what an amateur would be able to accomplish.

T E C H N I C A L - S P E C I F I C A T I O N S

In order to train this tech, you must consolidate the training to a type of weapon that your character owns, such as swords, staves, bows and arrows, knives, and so on. This type must be noted next to this tech, such as Weapon Proficiency (Sword) or #16 (Sword). Staff may ask you to make your weapon type more specific, depending on the situation.

Once trained, the tech will cause normal operation of the weapon to be .25x more powerful than it normally would, and to appear to travel .25x faster.

It is important to note that the speed endowed by this technique is a kind of "virtual" speed. Rather than actual speed, for melee weapons, that represents difficulty in reading movement. For ranged weapons, it represents the skill and accuracy of the user, and his/her ability to read and predict his/her enemy's movements. Thus, even if this tech makes the effective speed greater than a victim's eyesight detection, they can still see it move. However, in turn, they should find it much more difficult to block or dodge in that respect, unless they also have weapon proficiency of some kind.

This tech can also be upgraded to yield greater results. Each level must be accomplished before reaching the next. The level table is as follows:

Level CTN Damage Speed Additional
Tech Days
Total TDs
Invested
-- -- 1x 1x 0 0
1 #0016 1.25x 1.25x 30 (23/38) 30 (23/38)
2 #0016a 1.50x 1.50x 45 (34/56) 75 (57/94)
3 #0016b 1.75x 1.75x 75 (56/94) 150 (113/188)
4 #0016c 2x 2x 120 (90/150) 270 (203/338)

In addition, this tech can be trained multiple times for different weapon types.

Training in either General Weapons Training tech adds one level of effectiveness to the above, where applicable, except for weapons types already at level 4, which do not receive any additional bonuses. Thus, training anything up to level 4 in this technique after getting General Weapons Training is pointless.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If this technique is used for ranged weapons (such as bows, guns, etc), no damage bonus is given. Instead, the speed bonus is doubled (1.5x, 2x, 2.5x, 3x).

This tech is not applicable toward weapons that are permanently attached to the user (such as claws, or racially natural projectiles), controlled by an unattached force (such as floating in a psion's SoI), or any other fashion where it is extremely difficult or impossible to disarm the weapon from the user.
